He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that brings forth its fruit in its season…

Psalm 1:3

Ladies,

I’ve been thinking about how often we approach love with an outcome in mind.

We want to know where it’s going, what it will look like, or whether it will turn into something certain and clear. And before we know it, we’re no longer just present…we’re evaluating and wondering if someone already fits the picture we’ve imagined.

But love doesn’t usually grow that way.

Real love is more like a tree than a finished puzzle. It doesn’t arrive fully formed. It takes time to put down roots. It grows quietly, often in ways we can’t see yet. And the fruit comes later — in its season, not on our timeline.

When we rush the process, we risk missing what’s actually being grown. We can overlook the person right in front of us because we’re too focused on what hasn’t appeared yet. But Scripture reminds us that growth unfolds naturally when something is planted in the right place and tended with care.

A tree doesn’t strain to produce fruit. It simply stays rooted, drawing nourishment, growing steadily over time. Love works the same way. It isn’t something we force or demand into shape. It’s something we allow to develop as trust and understanding deepen.

I encourage us all to notice where we might be rushing toward outcomes instead of paying attention to what’s growing. And to really ask ourselves whether we’re allowing love the time and space it needs to take root.

When you look at how Jesus loves, it’s never rushed or conditional. He meets people where they are, walks with them, and allows real change to happen over time.

He never demands results and chooses to stay present through the process. And maybe that’s something we’re being asked to practice, too.

What might change if you trusted the process a little more today, and let love grow in its own season?
